SH*T OUR LEGISLATURE DOES

This just pulled from the Th-RECORD website
- Members of the Ulster County legislature will vote next Tuesday (9/21/2010) on a resolution opposing the controversial mosque project near ground zero.

This is known as a memorializing resolution...something our thirty-three, ($10,000.00 per year plus mileage and in some cases $8,000+ health insurance) legislators seem to be good at.

I am not quite sure what else the 2010 Legislature has accomplished besides attempting to derail the charter, obstruct the executive and battle with the comptroller, but it would be nice if they spent less time memorializing and more time monetizing ( free for other uses moneys that would have been devoted to debt service).

    Votes on Mosques
This evening, at the Republican Caucus, the caucus discussed a memorializing resolution that would send a message to the developers of the Mosque that has been proposed near Ground Zero in New York City. The resolution made it very clear that the location chosen by the developers was not a good one.

I voiced my opinion against the resolution. I would have no problem voting yes on a resolution that encouraged the developers of the Mosque to rethink their location, perhaps move the project a few blocks north of the current location. I think doing so (voting on a resolution with different wording) would be the decent thing to do, knowing that the public outcry has been very much against this project. I think a move north by a few blocks would make everyone happy.

However, this project is on private land, and we cannot allow our governments to start dictating where religious institutions can and can't go. We have a right to practice our religion whenever and wherever. That's a right that seems to be disappearing day by day, and we have to stop the abuse of our great Constitution.

I can barely remember what I had for breakfast today, so my memory isn't that great, but I'm pretty sure when I was sworn in this past January, I promised to support the Constitution of the United States. The freedom to worship is part of that same Constitution that I promised to support, so I can't support this resolution

  2. There are maybe 5 people on that board worth a damn. So maybe they should cut it down to 6, make them full time and be done with it.

  3. They should go back to the good ole days of resolutions calling for the impeachment of George Bush

  4. At least that one had merit.

  6. What do you expect when an incompetent like Wadnola is running the joint? When you have a tea bagger like Kevin "Sonny Crockett" Roberts as your most recognizable legislator, you are in very deep shit.
